And it’s a true story! From cultivating land and sharing resources to building pyramids and paying taxes, prepare to discover how humans established civilization, endured the consequences for it, and created history-changing inventions along the way. A proven plan to reverse prediabetes and type 2 diabetes with manageable changes to improve your life. If you are struggling with type 2 diabetes, obesity, or hypertension, you should know two important things:
1) It is not your fault. The truth is that the hardship caused by type 2 diabetes is fueled by profit-seeking food manufacturers. And while it is easy to place blame on the food industry, it is also important to understand our own roles in creating these circumstances. You might wonder why, if type 2 diabetes is reversible, it is commonly treated as a lifelong condition. The answer might shock you: It is being treated that way because it is profitable to treat it that way. It is a lot more profitable to sell drugs to treat lifelong conditions than to show people how to turn them around. But here's the good news: it doesn't have to be this way. In this book, Eric Edmeades and Dr. Ruben Ruiz give you a solid, step-by-step plan that just might reverse the condition for you. Over the course of 9 weeks, you'll learn how to make subtle changes to your lifestyle and deep changes to your psychology. You'll look at what you eat, when you eat it, and why you eat it. You'll begin to move your body into a primarily fat-burning metabolism and away from your current sugar-burning metabolism, learn more about seasonal eating, and reap the benefits of cyclical eating patterns. By the end of this program, you will have a clear understanding of the way the seasons work in concert with your body, and how you can turn around your type 2 diabetes and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

"From the giant gum tree to this very small weed, every flowering plant started out as a seed." And so Dr. Seuss' famous Cat in the Hat introduces young readers to the fascinating world of seeds and flowering plants. This title and others form part of a series of books that takes an off-beat look at nature and natural sciences through a fun combination of Seussian rhymes and zany illustrations. Aimed at early readers - from four to seven year olds - the books are designed to bridge the gap between concept books written for preschoolers and more formal non fiction titles that require fluent reading skills. By presenting the facts in a lively and rhythmic manner, they provide the critical foundation upon which complex facts and ideas can eventually be built.

As a wildfire threatens Berkeley, the city's inhabitants are forced to reckon with the cracks in the lives they've built. Abigail, a wealthy white woman, decides to throw a lavish birthday in a hillside mansion to raise money for the city's newest affordable housing project--and prove to her family that she's made something worthwhile of her life. Sunny, a construction worker who sleeps in a van along the bay's shore, is in the running for an apartment in the complex--but only if enough funds are raised at the party to subsidize low-income rentals. As the heat and smoke from the approaching blaze descend upon the town, tensions rise and residents--young and old, haves and have nots--confront the inequities laid bare, and the fragility of building a life in a world on fire. This book brings together recent research by a group of specialists in history and sociology to provide a new reading of the late Franco dictatorship, especially in relation to its political culture. The authors focus on the election of local, trade union and national representatives, the work of the first Spanish sociologists, the struggle over administrative reform, the role of the media and the intellectuals, as well as the evolution of the dictatorships political class and its response to the regimes decline. Not only are the politics of the late dictatorship scrutinised, but also the mechanisms that were deployed to control the fast-changing society of the 1960s and 1970s. In examining the late Franco period, the contributors do not believe that it contained the seeds of Spains later democratisation, but maintain that certain sectorial regime initiatives -- electoral and political changes, an evolving discourse and an interest in political processes outside Spain -- made many Spaniards aware of the dictatorships contradictions and limitations, thereby encouraging its subsequent political and social evolution. This transformation is compared with the latter stages of the parallel dictatorship in Portugal. The great majority of Spaniards felt that the embrace of democratic freedoms and integration into the European Community was the only way forward during the Transition. But the shift from dictatorship to democracy from the 1960s onwards in Spain needs to be understood in relation to the multitude of political and social changes that took place -- despite the opposition of Franco and the bunker mentality of the regime. These changes manifested in a complex interaction between internal and external factors, which eventually resulted in the transformation of Spanish society itself.
